Lulu Belle “Lu” Kennell, 85, of Ellerslie, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Goodwill Mennonite Home in Grantsville, with her granddaughter by her side.

Born March 9, 1939, in Southampton Township, Somerset County; a daughter of the late Frank Emerick and Gladys (Shroyer) Reese and Stepfather, Luther Reese, who raised her. Also preceded in death by her husband, Leroy C. Kennell in 2009, a half-brother, Robert Emerick; brothers-in-law, Bright Thompson, Harry “Mush” Kennell, Wayne Kennell and Richard Kennell.

Survived by sons, Dave Kennell, and wife DeAnn of Grantsville, Larry Kennell and Angie Liston of Morgantown; grandchildren, Samantha Davis and husband Bradley, Levi Kennell and friend Keely, Jacob and Dawson Kennell; siblings,  Robert Reese and wife Delores, Judy Smith and husband Clark, John Reese and wife Mary, Bonnie Thompson, Luther Reese and wife Joyce,  Linda  Blough and husband Nick, Ruth Kennell, Kay Walls, and Carol Huffman and husband Larry; as well as numerous nieces and nephews that she dearly loved and who loved her.

Lu was a 1956 graduate of Hyndman High School. She had worked at Star Restaurant, served school lunches at Mount Savage, was a dental assistant for Dr. Robinson, and Dr. Tompkins, where she retired. She was a dedicated member of Calvary Bible Church where she sang in the choir. She loved to cook and bake and enjoyed going to her children and grandchildren’s sporting events. She was loved by so many people and will be greatly missed.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, 169 Clarence St., Hyndman, on Tuesday May 28, 2024, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at Calvary Bible Church, 13901 S Gardner St., Ellerslie, on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at 11am., Pastor Ken Korns officiating. Friends will be welcomed at the church, one hour prior.

Burial will follow at Comps Cemetery, with her grandsons and nephews serving as pallbearers.

The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff of Goodwill Mennonite Home for the excellent care she received while a resident there, and her church family for all the support they gave her.

In lieu of flowers donations made be made to Calvary Bible Church or Goodwill Mennonite Home.
