Hyndman PA – Melvin Ray Emerick, 91, of Hyndman died Monday February 5, 2018 at Cumberland Healthcare Center
Born August 4, 1926 in Kennells Mill; son of the late Orrie and Pearl (Kennell) Emerick. He was also preceded in death by his wife Anna Marie (Bittner) Emerick in 2009; sisters, Ruby Jordan, Hilda Shaffer, Nellie Witt, Alma Burkett and Helen Clites.
Survived by a daughter Ellen Wakefield and husband David of Cumberland, MD; a son Rick Emerick and wife Stephanie (Oliver) of Hyndman; 5 grandchildren, James Wakefield and wife Cathy and Jason Wakefield and Amy Aprigliano; Kayla Wertz and husband Ted, Mitchell and Ean Emerick and 5 great-grandchildren, Jacob and Justin Wakefield, Sierra and Foster Wakefield and Adella Wertz and many nieces and nephews.
Melvin served in the US Navy during WWII. He retired from Potomac Edison in 1988 after many years of service. He was a life member of the Oscar Jordan VFW post 7375, the Kennells Mill Sportsman’s Club and bowled in leagues for many years. He enjoyed music and played many instruments. His favorite was the guitar which he taught himself how to play.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home Friday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ken Korns officiating
Burial will follow at Hyndman Cemetery with military honors by the Ft. Bedford Honor Guard
