Hyndman, PA – Richard “Dick” Sheldon, 83, of Hyndman died Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family.

Born March 24, 1932, in Johnstown, PA; he was a son of the late John and Melba (Strick) Sheldon. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack Sheldon and a sister, Melba Sheldon.

Survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Jane (Chon) Sheldon, whom he married April 21, 1956; children, Richard W. Sheldon II of Hyndman, Brooke Maimone of Pittsburgh; brothers, Louis Sheldon of Detroit, David Sheldon of New Hampshire, Donald Sheldon of Conemaugh, Robert Sheldon of New Jersey; sisters, Nancy Bischoff of Dale, Carol Lutz of New Alexandria and Sharon McCalley of Mineral Point; grandchildren, Tori, Paige and Logan Sheldon; Ashley, Hailey and Cody Maimone; a great grandson, Talon Sheldon-Keith; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Sheldon worked for the Pennsylvania Turnpike for 20 years, and the Celanese Corporation for 16 years. He was a veteran of the US Air Force. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and exploring Pennsylvania with his wife Betty. He was an avid Steelers fan and a member of the Bedford Sportsmen’s Club where he shot trap and pitched horseshoes.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

 A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home Sunday at 2pm with Pastor Terry Campbell officiating.

Burial will follow at Hyndman Cemetery with Military Honors by the Ft. Bedford Honor Guard.
