Buffalo Mills, PA – Sheldon Kieth Benton, 68, of Buffalo Mills, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at his home.

Born March 14, 1956, in Roaring Spring; he was a son of the late Sheldon Leroy and Mary Catherine Benton.

Sheldon was a 1974 graduate of Chestnut Ridge. He attended the first EMT class held in Bedford County in 1977 and became a Paramedic through Conemaugh Hospital in Johnstown. Over his 43-year career in EMS he worked for the 7th Ward Ambulance in Johnstown, Chestnut Ridge Ambulance, Medic 1, he served as Medical Director for the Bedford Ambulance, volunteered at the Imler Fire Department, and retired from Raystown Ambulance. He had his fireworks license and did shoots at the Imler Fire Hall every summer. He was also an instructor for Hunter and Trapper Education and received several instructor of the year awards. He was also a member of Everett Sportsmen’s Club and was Methodist by faith.

He is survived by his wife 33 years, Cathy (Burkett) Benton, whom he married July 28, 1990; sons, Timothy Benton of Breezewood; Sheldon Adam Benton (Christi) of Pittsburgh, stepsons, Jeffrey Sturtz (Trisha)of Cumberland, Jeremy Sturtz (Susan)of Hyndman; grandson, Tyrin Benton; step grandchildren, Garrett, Baylee, Paige, and Landon Sturtz; a sister, Trudy MacIntrye (Dan) of Alum Bank, a brother, Bryan Benton (Lori) of Claysburg; and stepmother, Twila Benton of Martinsburg; many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Friday, March 22, 2024, from 6 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Rod Spiker officiating. Viewing one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be private at Hyndman Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to your local ambulance company or Bedford County Humane Society.
