Hyndman, PA – Stephen Charles Shaffer, 82, of Hyndman, Pennsylvania went to be with the Lord Thursday, November 17, 2016.

Born January 28, 1934 in Hyndman, he was the son of the late Claude B. and Nellie M. (Bruck) Shaffer. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Ours, Mona “Peggy” Atwood; brothers, John and Bob Shaffer.

He was a loving, devoted husband, father, Pap, brother, uncle, friend, and neighbor to many. Over the span of his lifetime, he worked for Chevrolet (Ohio), Pensy Railroad, Celanese (Maryland) and Western Maryland Health System. Steve was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hyndman where, as a child, he helped his father warm the church for Sunday service.

He is remembered by his family most for his wisdom, sincerity, humility, humor, dependability, and self-sacrifice. He loved spending time with his family, and spoiling his nine grandchildren. He was a loyal family man and friend who will be missed all those who knew him.

Survived by his wife of 56 years, Audrey (Kline) Shaffer, whom he married November 26, 1960; daughter, Lori Ingram, husband Randy, and grandchildren, Rebecca, Caroline (Vincent), son, Bobby, wife Kimberly and grandchildren, Stephen (Taylor), Zachery, Caleb, and Jessica, daughter, Karen Trego, and grandchildren, Cyrus, Nathaniel, and Benjamin, and special nephew/son, Glenn “Birdie” Ours and wife Shelly.

Also survived by siblings, Earl (Evie),  Claude “Jitter” (Linda), Richard “Dick” , Douglas “Butch” (Lana) and Glenn “Pug” (Vickie) Shaffer, Wanda Bistline (Les) and Joyce Pensyl (Stanley), of Hyndman, Martha Jane (Jim) Johnston of North Carolina, sister-in-law, Charlotte Shaffer, and many, many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Monday November 21, 2016 from 1:00pm to 4:00.

A funeral service will follow at the First United Methodist Church, 183 First Ave., Hyndman at 5:00 pm.
