Obituary

Vivian Rose Shaffer, 93, of Hyndman passed away June 26, 2023, at her home.

Born May 17, 1930, in Hyndman, she was a daughter of the late Carl Sr. and Mildred (Logsdon) Miller. She married Edward “Jay” Shaffer Feb. 25, 1949, in Ellerslie, Md. He preceded her in death in 1989. She was also preceded by a sister, Helen Jean Ritchey Williams; brothers: Carl Jr., David, Kenneth, Irvin “Ted,” and Richard Miller; special fiend, Donnavon Shaffer.

She is survived by daughter, Susan Elaine Buck of Rockville; son, Roger Jay Shaffer of Hyndman, grandchildren: Martin Jay, Toni Michelle, Kelli Ann and Morgan Rae; great-grandchildren: Christopher, Timothy, Everett and Ryan Elizabeth; sisters: Janet Martz and husband, Eugene, and Kathleen Ritchey; sisters-in-law: Mary Ann Miller and Joyce Miller; and many nieces and nephews.

Vivian was a member of Palo Alto United Methodist Church. She and Jay spent 24 years in the Navy and travelled extensively with their children including 2 1/2 years in Morocco. She also visited many of our 50 states and took a cross county driving trip with her children for her 80th birthday.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers donation may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
