Bedford, PA – Wayne A. Shaffer, 88, of Bedford, who loved to travel, made his final trip on May 16, 2016 at UPMC Altoona. His destination Heaven. He courageously battled many health issues over the last 26 years.

 Born December 16, 1927 in Londonderry Township; a son of the late Millard and Kate (Reese) Shaffer. He was also preceded in death by four sisters, Martha Cook, Dorothy DeVore, Lena McGee and Datha Burkett; former wife, June (Emerick) Shaffer

Survived by his wife of 31 years, Betty (Dull) Miller Shaffer, children, Roger Shaffer and wife Cyndi, Rena Litten and husband Fred, Rhonda Sites and husband Greg, all of Hyndman; step children, Jeff Miller of Buffalo Mills, Jackie Miller of Bedford; grandchildren, Leah Litten Oster and husband Greg, Sara Litten Ruddle and husband Ashby; Greg Sites and wife Ashley, Caleb Shaffer, Alexis Sites Cerny and husband, Brandon, Trevor Sites and wife, Katie and Becca Shaffer; step grandchildren, Lea Maciolek and husband John, Stephen Miller; 5 great grandchildren, one step great granddaughter; four special nieces; special two nephews; and many friends.

Wayne retired from Bedford Penn Dot where he was a Bridge Foreman. He was a US Army Veteran serving in WWII as a medic. He was the former owner of the Stringtown Crossroads Gulf Station and had also worked at Letterkenny.

Wayne was a member of the Tulls Hill Bible Church, the Hyndman and Pomona Grange. He enjoyed church and other religious activities. He was always there to help people in need. He and Betty enjoyed traveling and spent winters in Florida. They visited all 50 states and many countries. He also enjoyed farming, gardening and tending to his cactus. He will be remembered for his smile and laid back attitude.

Friends will be received at the Tulls Hill Bible Church, 1847 Tulls Hill Rd, Bedford, PA 15522 on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the church on Friday at 1 pm with Pastors Dan Campbell and Stanley Serafin officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Manns Choice.
