Elyria, OH – Wendell Clifton Beal of Elyria, OH – 88 years old, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Avon Oaks Nursing Home in Avon, OH. Wendell and his twin brother were born to the late Irvin H. and Mae M. Beal (Blume) of Ellerslie, MD.

Wendell retired from the General Motors (Elyria Plant) in 1986 after nearly 35 years of service. He was the Benefits Representative for UAW Local 780 employees for many years as well as holding many offices in the 780 Local, including Past-President of the Retiree’s Chapter.

Wendell served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Long Island in the Pacific Theater.
His interests included the UAW, city politics, golf, ice skating, yard-work and taking walks.

Preceding him in death was the love of his life, and wife for over 62 years, Kathleen Beal (Oster); his brother Troy Beal, a half-brother Bob Wakefoose and half-sister Winifred (Wakefoose) Dudley.
Wendell is survived by his daughters Wendy Mertz (Jim) of Elyria and Erin Link (Ed) of Amherst, OH; grandchildren – Julie (Tjemmes) Painter of Louisville, KY, Megan Link of Toledo, OH and Ethan Link of Amherst, OH.; Ozwald Beal (Wendell’s twin) of Hyattsville, MD, his sister – Zelma Kelly of Ellerslie, MD and sister-in-laws – Betty Beal and Carrie Pfitzenmayer of Ellerslie, MD – as well as many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Inc., 169 Clarence Street, Hyndman on Saturday February 28th from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. where a funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m.

Burial at Porter Cemetery, Hyndman
